Chicken McNuggets

The classic Chicken McNugget has been a McDonalds icon snce it was introduced in 1983. You would expect a chicken nugget to be peaces of chicken deep fried in batter, so you would be shocked to find out that AS OF THE 9th October 2010 A MCNUGGET HAS 34 INGREDIENTS!

A lot of these are chemicals like Sodium Phosphate and are made in the U.S.A. Some of the more worrying looking chemicals used to make McNuggets are; Monocalcium Phosphate, Acid Pyrophosphate and Dimethylpolysiloxane.

To get back to the geography of the McNuggets, most of the Chicken used comes from farms relatively local to the major food processing factories. Except that's not the problem. Basically they take all the chickens that are too old to lay eggs and are useless to the farmers because normally they would be considered too old to eat. Then they mash the chickens up into a paste, this includes all the bones and some organs. These are breaded and deep fried, then they are freeze dried. They are then delivered to a McDonalds near you.
